Fa Fa Climbing a Ladder

Although Fa Fa doesn't enjoy being carried, she has pretty much climbed everything in the house when she was a kitten, particular a shelving rack at the back of our old house where we kept storage. So when a ladder presented itself, I guess she couldn't help herself.

"I AM THE MIGHTY CAT!!!! WORSHIP ME!!!"

Ellie Stalking A Squirrel

One frustrated cat, wishing that she could climb the tree, or hoping that rodent with a extra bushy tail would come down for a nice piece of death.

Profile: Ellie

D.O.B: November 2013
Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Colour: Dark grey and White
Eye Colour: Yellow
Gender: Female

Ellie joined the family in January 2014.  She first popped up at my mother's kindergarten as a stray, but one which had enough charm and enchantment which made my mum bring her home. When found she was already spayed and the tip of her left ear was chipped off. It seems that this was how to tell spayed or neutered strays for population control purposes.
When she approached us, she was probably 2-3 months old, just a kitten, which was super manja (know how to act cute and suck up).

My mum grew so attached to her to a point she was concerned for her safety outdoor.. worrying she might get hit by a car or if a dog might maul her to death, especially when she was absent a couple of times and after not taking in another friendly cat, Arthur, which eventually stopped showing up and might had been killed (that story for another time).

So anyway, we brought her home! As usually, cats are hostile towards other cats.. except for Ga Ga who welcomed her home with open arms!

She was a brave fella, who wasn't one bit afraid of the dogs in the house. Even caught her chasing them before. She was quite thin when we brought her in, but now she's pretty and fat! She does however, have a weird "dead prawn" like smell near her head. Weird.

She's an interesting one, often coming to us and just crashing on the floor on top of our legs, just to be affectionate. And of course, she's pretty! Nice tail and proportionate body. A real keeper!

She looks like a rat in this picture. A nice rat!

A Trip to the Vet

Brought my kids to a visit to the vet. Remy for a jab, while the others were meant to be dewormed. Since the carrier was limited in size, we decided to bring the two boys. Ga Ga was crying (the bitchy cry, rather than the sympathetic one) throughout the whole trip. There's something about vets.. my cats are always fearful of it. Perhaps its the smell of death, or the bad memories, or something. The vet my family normally frequents is one called Baby Pets in Taman Equine.

They probably can tell..  "This can't be good"

My son

My mom with the big, scary-cat-boy

Remy can only relax with my mom. Without her there, the fear itself might kill him.

Oh, so scarreeddd...

Back at home. Relaxing like a boss in one of his regular spots.

Stalking a Dragonfly

One night while getting a snack I noticed my three kids staring at a wall-mounted light, as though attentively listening to the first doomsday sermon which made any sense. Upon a closer look, I realised they were stalking down a dragon fly.

Trying something different this time - I did a recording! Hoping to feature more videos in post to come. My apologies for the heavy breathing, this shows I'm too excited about my cats.

Hope you liked the video! I'll see you again in the next post.

I spy...

Three Siblings Under The Water Tank

These three fellas have found a routine, sleeping under the water tank inside their enclosure every afternoon. So exclusive.

Might be posting videos soon!

Apparently, these two monkeys got on the roof while my dad was trying to fix something. Curious cats indeed.

D.O.B: September 2012
Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Colour: Tortoiseshell and white
Eye Colour: Yellow
Gender: Female

The fat girl, Ge Ge, one of the three sibling. We aren't close, so I don't have much to write about her.. but she's still family. Fat cats have a born curse - the fatter they are, the more humans want to pick them up and give a hug!

Super annoyed face after getting spayed and having a collar placed on her

Ge Ge has a strange personality. She'd be cautious whenever I approach her, but never runs away. She likes it when I put my foot on her (I'll stroke her with my feet) as she goes purring away, but not if it do it with my hands. I also always have an "unwilling" meow whenever we pick her up. So she's not one that likes human cuddles.

Being sisters, naturally, Fa Fa is the closest cat she has to to house. Human wise, her favourite is my mom and sister.

She has a fetish for durians. Just gave her one or two licks as I don't think their bodies can handle it.

Ge Ge has been bullied by Remy recently, perhaps a dominant struggle since she is the second biggest cat to Remy in the house. Though at times, nice scenes like this do occur.

Eye Colour: Amber

Fa Fa is from the same litter (is litter a term for cats as well, or just dogs? Oh well) as Ga Ga and Ge Ge, hence the similar sounding names. Among the three, she was the smallest.. AND the MOST attention seeking! The three learnt how to climb (mosquito nets) as a very young age. Every time we approach their enclosure, she'll climb up the net to our face level, begging for attention.

She is undoubtedly the bitchiest cat in the house. That also makes her the queen, as she bosses everyone around. There were even times I had to stop her from harming Remy - she was that fierce. She does have a charming time as she'll go and lick everyone (except the dogs).

She's also the only cat in the house who responds to her name! Only from me and sometimes from my mom.

Relationship wise, Fa Fa is the closest one to me. She'll sleep almost every night (next to my head - my second head pillow!) and often lies at my feet or beside my laptop whenever I'm working at home. However, I do think she's the ugliest. I mean come on, short tail and super long hind legs. At times, I'd go "Fa Fa, you so ugly (and she stares back lovingly), but you're still my cat!". She does have a never nice pattern, her patches at the shoulder are separate patches.. sometimes I call her "cow cat", cause cows have distinct patches too.

Yeah, she's quite a menace. But she's also the most loveable one.

Profile: Ga Ga

Ga Ga

D.O.B: September 2012
Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Colour: Lights brown with dark brown strips
Eye Colour: Greenish-amber
Gender: Male

Gaga came to us, or rather, my aunt when he and his two sisters were born in the roof of my aunt's house (that's between the roof tiles and insulation in case you thought there was a typo). They were abandoned by their frail mother, which never came back to retrieve or care for them. After a few days of crying, my aunt decided to bring them down, fearing they could die and causing the place to stink. The retrieval process was tedious, especially with Gaga, who refused to come down.. running around avoiding capture despite having nothing to eat or drink for days.

My mom agreed to take them in temporarily, bringing them to her kindergarten everyday to see if any parents or teachers would like to adopt them. Gaga was the clear favourite as he has very nice fur patterns. One of the teachers agreed to take him, but changed her mind last minute. There were no takers for the others.. so, guess we were keeping them all!

Big sis (not actually related) Cha Cha playing with what was then only a month plus old Ga Ga

The names were given by one of my maid's, Ping, perhaps trying to match the names of another two kittens (Bo Bo and Cha Cha). Therefore, Ga Ga's name has nothing to do with one eccentric American singer. Ga Ga is a male-cat after all. I have no idea what it means in Cambodian.

Just a few weeks old, he was reigning terror in the house, with seeming unlimited supply of energy. My parents described him as the naughtiest cat in house. However, he had many pleasant surprises in store for us.

Ga Ga in his favourite basket.. which also happens to be the one we put our mail in.

Nooo... the lighttt..!

As it turned out, Ga Ga is quite the sweet heart. He has never hissed at anyone or anything. When we brought Brandy (our first dog) home as a puppy, scared and barking away (with cute litten arf-arfs), the other cats were unamused and unfriendly. Ga Ga stepped up and accompanied the new puppy all day and night. Even when Ellie came in, while cats a typically hostile to another which "invades" their territory, Ga Ga was quite the gentlemen, eagerly welcoming her home.

Ga Ga accompanying Brandy when she was a puppy

First meeting and Ga Ga says hello!

Ga Ga is also quite the comedian. My dad says he has a "funny" face, like a clown. I just think he looks blur, as he does give a "huh. what's going on?" kind of face. Of course, something he does is also quite amusing and cute.

I don't need to be in a basket to squash you!

Ga Ga is also Remy's favourite kitten in the house. In fact, he is every cats favourite cat, they all love him.

Sleeping on the Router

So this is why internet connection is bad once in a while. The bandwidth has been absorbed by his fur.

Profile: Remy

Remy
D.O.B: September 2011
Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Colour: Cream
Eye Colour: Amber
Gender: Male

Remy! Named after the main protagonist in the Pixar flim, Ratatouille, an appropriate compromise as I initially wanted the name him Rat (think about calling a cat Rat.. so fun). I already had Elphar (whom I'll talk about some other time), who seemed lonely at home (every time I came home or left the house, he will be mewing away non-stop). Elphar also proved too much of a bite-full (pity my toes). I had to find a distraction.

I got Remy from the SPCA in Ampang on 27th November 2011. The caretakers said he was 2 months old. He certainly didn't look like it and was easily the size of a regular DSH. When I first saw him, I was sure I wanted to bring him home.

He is an extremely shy cat, makes a very high pitch girly-cat mew, and is the 1.5x the size of a regular cat. It is very rare to hear him mew. Known times are when in the car going to the vet and at my parents bedroom door begging for my mom's affection. He also makes a raccoon like cry at the random times.

Look at this plush toy!

He had an eye infection when first brought home, with a light greenish discharge excreting from his tear glands. I was fixed with eye droplets after several days and weeks (it was recurring), and soon, it proved to be one very handsome cat.

He used to be quite the purrer. Not so much any more (not with me anyway).

'
Ying and Yang action with Elphar

First bath! Starting him young proved effective. When he grew up, he was very comfortable with water.. even caught sitting in heavy rain a few times.

Growing steadily into one very handsome cat.

I would describe Remy as a "top of the class" cat. Within a few months, he solved our rat problem, even catching at least 2 rats and stalking many more. Rats virtually disappeared from my home.

He used to climb trees too. There used to be a tree is front of my old house which he'd climb to get to my parents bedroom. A very effective way to melt my mom's heart by going through all that trouble. Unfortunately, he has lost all his confidence and curiosity one night after falling into a drain once and hurting his leg. He did not come home the whole night.. my mom and maids found him in the drain mewing in fear the next morning. Thank goodness he was found alive.

Always with the funniest sleeping pose.. and I always self-invite myself to rub my face on his belly (which he apparently hates).

His most favourite human is my mom, while I am his most feared human. Whenever I pat him or rub my face on his body, he'll look super annoyed and begin licking himself clean to get rid of my smell (I always re-pat when he is done.. and again he licks himself clean). Oh my boy, why don't you love me...

So there, the profile of son Remy.

Sisterly Lick Fest

Another segment from the same Skype session I had with Remy. These are the two sisters showing lots of love to one another.
Fa Fa (left) and Ge Ge (right). Ge Ge doesn't usually lick anyone, so this was a real treat.

Fa Fa is typically the one who licks everyone. She's returning the favour!

Fa Fa apparently getting annoyed with too much licking.. she "snaps" at Ge Ge a few seconds after this picture.

More to come! Might post some old ones.
